No school on Monday so why not join usfor some super fun at theFirst FREE Fort Greene Track and Field Day Perfect for kids ages 5 through 14!   Monday, October 8th, 3 – 6 p.m.  sign in begins at 2:30 p.m. Brooklyn Tech Football Field, 510 Clermont Avenue  (between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue) Plus Jasmin of Music for Aardvarks will be there to entertain the lil ones!   Organized by Young Rock Soccer Academy in conjunction with Council Member Letitia James, LIU Brooklyn Sports Science Department, P.S. 11 Purvis Behan School, Hip Tot Music Fest, Everyday Athlete and others. Events include fitness training, dodge ball, capture the flag, relay races, soccer, sprints, tug of war and more.

Child's Play NY After School Acting Classes: Now in Fort Greene!!

School has started and now it's time for all the after school fun! Child’s Play NY, a theater program for 3-11 year olds has added a new class in a new location; Magical Travels for 3-5 year olds at  Cumbe  Center for African and Diaspora Dance, 558 Fulton Street, in Fort Greene. At the same time they are offering a parent and me Baby Drumming for little siblings. Classes start on Monday, September 24 and the first class is FREE! Mondays 4:00 – 5:00 September 25–January 15 Cumbe Dance 558 Fulton Street 2nd floor Magical Travels!  ages 3-5 Magical Travels is geared to 3-5 year olds who are ready to let their imagination take them on a fantastic journey. From the land of the dinosaurs to outer space, the little actors will adventure across enchanted worlds and even travel through time! Child’s Play will show their students how to use theater to explore cultures and characters in history, science and nature. 15 sessions: $425      + Baby Drumming ages 0-2.5 years While the big guy is showing off his inner Shakespeare, you and the little one can have a blast in this Baby Drumming class! $5 per class Around the World ages 3-5 Tuesdays 3:30-4:30 September 25 – January 15 Area Yoga: 144 Montague Street, Brooklyn Heights From the myths of Greece to the fables of China, adventure with us to exciting lands rich with legends and characters.  We’ll sing, dance and (of course!) act our way across the map.  Pack your imaginations and off we go! 15 sessions: $425 Fairy Tale Improv ages 3-5 Thursdays 3:20-4:20 September 27-January 17 Area Yoga: 389 Court Street, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Brush off your crown and practice your roar! Let’s discover what happens between “Once upon a time” and “Happily ever after” as we adapt our favorite classic and contemporary fairy tales. 15 sessions: $425 Shakespeare Players: Hamlet ages 7-11 Sundays 4-5:30  September 30th – January 13th St Francis College, 180 Remsen Street, Brooklyn Heights Jocelyn Greene directs with assistance from Stephanie Janssen (MFA – NYU) and movement/fight choreography from Kelsey Kurz (Juillard).  All Shakespeare Players teaching artists are classically trained professional actors and have performed Shakespeare both on and off Broadway and in regional theaters across the country. 13 sessions: $400

Ms. Js Summer Camp

Ms J’s camp is perfect for children ages 3 (potty trained) to 11yrs. Activities run from 9am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Our campers will enjoy gymnastics, dance, arts and crafts, games, puzzles, climbing rope, zip-lining, jumping on the BIG trampoline, running through sprinklers at the Grand St park and of course making new friends.  

July 2 - August 31st

If you’ve ever been to Habana Outpost you know it is one amazing place! The super cool Brooklyn eatery is totally run by solar power, they use rainwater for their plants and the bathroom, the food is delicious and the drinks even better. But what you probably didn’t know is that Habana Outpost is comprised of a few parts, one being Habana Works, a 501-C3 non-profit organization that provides free, hands-on programs that celebrate urban environmentalism as a means of contributing to an educated, happy and engaged community in downtown Brooklyn, created by Habana Outpost owner, Sean Meenan.

What does Habana Works do exactly? Way more than you could imagine. A major part of Habana Works is The Kid’s Corner. This is a weekend program that offers free, creative crafts and workshops that teach environmentalism, wellness and community to neighborhood children. All Kid's Corner activities are held outdoors on Saturdays and Sundays (from 12pm to 4pm, May through September) in the Habana Outpost courtyard. The Kids Corner staff creates recycled art with kids for FREE and will make your visit as a parent a much more enjoyable experience.

Are you an educator looking for a fun way to introduce environmentalism to a class? Habana Works is here for you! Come to Habana Outpost and have your class take a ride on the Human Powered Bike Blender, taste the difference between Chocolate mint and Apple Mint and learn how we harvest rainwater to flush the toilets! Tours are FREE and can be booked easily by emailing info@habanaworks.org

If that’s not enough, on Tuesdays from 10am – 12pm the courtyard of Habana Outpost is transformed into a toddler wonderland complete with toys, water table and supervised art projects geared towards children 4 and under. Meet your neighbors and watch your babies make new friends.  Presented in conjunction with My Brooklyn Baby. What a great way to introduce your little one to their community!

Community building is what Habana Works is about and we want you to build it with us.

Ms Js Summer Camp Open House! Come on by and enjoy a short demonstration of what the gymnastics portion of Ms Js camp day will be like, meet the councilors and see some original art work made at camp last year! The Hip Tot Music Festival was created by local Brooklyn parents Gabby Napolitano and Adam Meyer. The family-friendly live music series, 'Hip Tot Music Fest' happens on the second Sunday of every month at Littlefield. The fest will feature arts and crafts, face painting, local food, giveaways and, of course, great music.

Child's Play NY Summer Camp for 3-5 year olds

Animals in ACTion,Ocean Adventures, Magical Travels
and Fairy Tale Improv
Campers explore creative movement, theater games, improvisation, song and literature in our theater camp.  They are taught character-driven physicality and vocal techniques by professional actors and teachers.  Play is at the heart of the camp, and the children’s intuitions and imaginations are encouraged at every step. They build props and costumes to augment their dramatic play.  The final day is open to friends and family.

Our favorite family hang is finally open! The crowds were there and Habana was ready on opening day with the most interesting vendors teaching about all kinds of recycling and environmental awareness. But that's not the only big thing going on at Habana Outpost. On Saturday, May 12th Habana Outpost will have their famous block party that officially marks the opening of the Kids Corner. Not sure what that is? The Kids Corner is a part of Habana's non-profit, Habana Works, that offers free activities for kids all season long. Contact me if you have ideas or suggestions for kids activities at Habana.
